1. What is a domain name?

Domain names are the familiar, easy to remember names for computers on the Internet (such as dotYourFamily.com). They correspond to a series of numbers called Internet Protocol numbers (IP numbers) that serve as routing addresses on the Internet. Domain names are used generally as a convenient way of locating information and reaching others on the Internet.

2. What does it mean to "register" a domain name?

The Internet Domain Name System (DNS) consists of a directory, organized hierarchically, of all the domain names and their corresponding computers registered to particular companies and persons using the Internet. When you register a domain name, it will be associated with the computer on the Internet you designate (DNS information) during the period the registration is in effect. You may update DNS information at any time by contacting support@domainbank.net.

3. I already have a domain name, can I transfer my name to the security of dot Your Family?

You can obtain our quality customer service and care by submitting a Registrar Change form to us. Please visit and complete a "Registrar Transfer" document from Authorization to Change Registrars This process will not interrupt or effect your current registration. You will be charged and credited for one "1" year of registration ($30.00). The one year will be added to whatever term you have remaining on the original registration period.

4. Once I have registered a Domain Name how do I Modify my DNS, Administrative, Technical, and Billing information?

To update information for an existing domain name, Log In from our Home Page with your ID and password, then choose the appropriate button for the information you wish to change (For security reasons Registrant information can only be changed by the Registrar - see next topic). Note - The DNS information can be obtained from your web host and must be exact.

5. How do I change Ownership/Registrant information if I sell or transfer a domain name?

For both legal and security purposes all Registrant transfers must be processed through our Registrar. The process requires notarized authorization from the current Registrant ordering the change. Note - There is a $50.00 fee for this process charged by our Registrar. To request a transfer form please e-mail registrant@nic.net with a request for Registrant Transfer paperwork.

6. Will my name and contact information be publicly available?

Yes. Information about who is responsible for domain names is publicly available to allow rapid resolution of technical problems and to permit enforcement of consumer protection, trademark, and other laws. This information available to the public on the WhoIs site.

7. How long does a registration last? Can it be renewed?

Currently the Registrant has the choice of 2,5, or 10 years for the initial registration period. Registrations which originated through our site can be renewed from one to ten years at a time.

8. How much does a domain-name registration name cost?

dot Your Family offers several different prices depending of the term of registration you as the Registrant chooses. Please check our Pricing Page for a more detailed list of prices.

9. When do I have to pay for my domain name?

Before your domain name becomes active, you must provide a credit card number. This requirement enhances the availability of domain names by preventing them from being tied up by persons not intending to pay for registration.

10. Someone else has registered my company's name as a .Com domain name. What is the process for resolving my complaint?

All ICANN-accredited Registrars follow a uniform dispute resolution policy. Under that policy, disputes over entitlement to a domain-name registration are ordinarily resolved by court litigation between the parties claiming rights to the registration. Once the court rules who is entitled to the registration, the registrar will implement that ruling. In disputes arising from registrations allegedly made abusively (such as "cybersquatting" and cyberpiracy"), the uniform policy provides an expedited administrative procedure to allow the dispute to be resolved without the cost and delays often encountered in court litigation. In these cases, you can invoke the administrative procedure by filing a complaint with one of the dispute-resolution service providers listed at http://www.icann.org/udrp/udrp.htm

11. Are .Com, .Net, and .Org domain names available for registration on a global basis?

Yes. The .Com, .Net, and .Org domains are available for registration by Internet users across the globe.

12. Is dotYourFamily ICANN accredited?

dotYourFamily is an affiliate to one of the oldest and most reputable ICANN accredited Registrar's, Domain Bank, Inc. and all registrations are licensed under that accreditation. We have choosen to work with Domain Bank due to the customer care and security that we wish to pass along to all of our customers.

13. Do I receive an e-mail address with my domain name?

Currently we do not offer any e-mail services for domain names but expect to do so in the future. Most web hosts will provide you with an e-mail account for your domain name when you are ready to put your web site on the Internet.

14. Once I have registered a Domain Name how do I get my site onto the Internet? Does dotYourFamily.com provide web space?

When registering a domain name you do not receive any web space on our servers. You will need to contact a Web Hosting company which will store your web pages on their computers. You must contract for service with a Web Host so their computers will "serve" your web pages to the Internet. Request that the Web Host provide you with Primary and Secondary Host Names and IP addresses (a.k.a., DNS). You can input the Web Hosts DNS either during the domain name registration process or you can modify an existing domains DNS after registration at any time for free.
